The theme for today has been aaaaaarrrrrrrggggggghhhhhhh! No joke.

When you’re running around with little ones, feeling like you’re parenting solo, working your bum off and trying to keep some part of “the old you” alive, it’s one of the things I hear often.

“How are you doing today? How’s things?”
“Oh, you know. Busy, but good”

When we both know if you spoke the truth, it would be very different!

“How are you doing today? How’s things?”
“Aaaaaaaarrrrrrrrggggggghhhhhh! The kids have had me up since the crack of dawn, the house is a pig sty, I haven’t walked the dog and I’ve got no idea what I’m doing for dinner. I wanna run off to a beach with a bottle of prosecco and bag of doritos.”

Yet we do it on repeat – pretend things are ok, when they’re really not.

So here’s three ways you can get out of a funk, that don’t require hours of therapy or putting on three stone in secret eating.

1. Turn your phone off – stop checking out instagram and comparing yourself to the woman pictured in front of yet another pastel door. Stop thinking it’s relaxing you. It’s not. It’s messing up your brain, and a couple of hours away from it will do you the world of good.

2. Move your bum – blast out some tunes and have a kitchen rave, head over to highwoods and swing from the monkey bars or get in the garden and see if you can still do cartwheels. Move your body and have FUN with it. Don’t go to the gym if it feels like a chore, do something to make you laugh.

3. Brownie points for you if you do the above with a friend. If you both switch off your phones and fall head over heels doing cartwheels in the garden, even better.

Women need company!

You can’t make your own serotonin, you need the company of others to get that wonder drug flowing through your body. So step away from the tech, and the to-do list, and go play with your friends in the playground.

Inside that gloriously wise-woman is a little girl who’s desperate to have a giggle.

Nobody wants to be a mardy bum. 🙂
